Journalism Day at CSUN

Karla, Karina and Vanessa competed in the opinion writing competition at High School Journalism Day at Cal State Northridge today. Although they did not bring home any awards, they experienced the thrill of competition. They also attended workshops on content creation, entrepreneurial journalism, sports writing and broadcast journalism.

We placed copies of The Crimson Chronicle next to the other school's newspapers and they were all snapped up. I received compliments on our paper from other school's advisers.

I found the following excerpt from a statement by the California Newspaper Publishers Association significant: "Just as in the outside community, campus media present the good with the bad. The campus newspaper is not a mouthpiece of the administration or of the faculty. It is not a newsletter for parents. It is not a puff-sheet for campus groups or sports or cliques. The well-run campus newspaper is the voice of the students, reflecting the student community and explaining the world of students."
