March Issue Looks Great

Once again, we were hampered by computer problems, but we prevailed! Special thanks to Maria, who was not deterred by the demise of her computer, and to William, who brought our advertising total to $610 this month.

Please write a reflection on this month's issue and post it as a comment here. What did you accomplish in this issue? Are you proud of your stories and/or photos? If so, why? What could you have done to improve your work? Where can you focus your improvement for the next issue?

  1. I thought that this month's issue was rather nice. I felt proud of the advertising and entertainment articles I wrote, however I need to work on my news and op/ed writing a little more. That sort of style is my weakness and it slowed me down a little too much this issue. Also we need to make sure that the computer cables all have enough slack to avoid another dilemma. Even though I do not care for writing for the more serious pages, I should probably do my best to keep writing for them until I achieve more confidence. The other writers all seemed very enthusiastic and prompt for this issue and that is something that deserves recognition. One more thing, Maria did an extraordinary job this issue and we should all give her like a trophy or something. Good job Maria!

    1. Nice is for sweaters your grandmother gives you. Aside from that, your reflection is thoughtful and honest. The cable situation didn't cause the computer failure, but the cable situation IS Mickey Mouse and needs to be fixed. I will work on that.

  3. Hopefully we can avoid another computer failure. I am especially proud of the news pages and I apologize for any errors. Thanks to every who contributed. Also the articles on the entertainment are really well done. I think we did a great job and I feel proud of us for publishing a 12 page issue considering we are a small staff

    1. We need to back up everything at the end of each day. I will ask Mr. Benainous and Mr. Manriquez to show me how to back files up on The Cloud or on Box.net

  4. Well I agree with what everyone else has said so far. This issue was just as good as the last one we published. I think we do better each time with the fresh ideas we do on the entertainment pages.I like contributing to doing the man on the street we get some funny answers from people. Great job to Maria <3 she worked really hard this issue with that whole computer situation. I wasn't really that stressed for some reason this issue I think I would like to write a little more than I do, I like seeing my name in the paper it feels good:) Overall we did a reaaly good job guys.-Nanette

    1. Yes, seeing your name in the paper does feel good! Let's see more of it. The way to improve one's writing is to write as much as possible.

  5. This issue was very challenging because some deadlines weren't met (guilty!) and the editors (especially Maria) had a difficult time constructing the layout and such. However, this year's journalism class is very impressive and prompt because each student was assigned 2-3 articles whereas before the class would have 1-2. I'm proud of what the journalism staff as a whole has accomplished and we didn't succumb to an 8 page paper. I wasn't especially proud of my performance in this issue but I know for a FACT that in the next issue I'll have more to contribute.

  6. I believe that Karina and I worked well under pressure considering our outside distractions and responsibilities. I am proud of the work I produced this issue, since I rarely write opinion articles. The photo for Boys State was just hilarious, and again, I rarely take photos, so it's great to have a photo credit. I think I will try to organize my features pages more. I want next issue's Features pages to be amazing.

  7. As a whole, the March issue was yet another great issue. I think we each had interesting stories and because of that we received various positive feedback from around the campus. I found myself writing yet another review for the entertainment pages, something I wouldn't normally do. I enjoyed writing the softball article because I got to know more about the sport and the team members, something I was never interested in. The news pages looked amazing, considering Maria worked on them in one night. We did have errors that we will have to make a correction box in the upcoming issue. Overall, I'm satisfied with this issue and the amount of ads we had (thank you William)!

  8. The March issue was very good. We're getting better at getting the students interested in our newspaper and getting other SLC's involved, not just SAS. For the next issue I would like to write more stories and not just a brief or Athletes of the Month. I am proud of the stories I worked on because I was able to get them done in time but for the next issue I will definetly try to get more stories to see if i can handle them.

  9. I accomplished to turn in my stories and photos on time. I'm proud of how my stories came out, especially my feature story. It is one of my best stories I have written. I could have gotten more quotes and add more words into my stories. I plan on focusing on my pictures next issue.

    1. I agree that your pie-throwing story was good. Maybe you can take the photos of the Holocaust survivor and Tania can write the story.

  10. I was really proud of this issue especially the fact that Maria was able to manage to do her pages all over again despite time was running out. She did such a great job this issue. She always gives it her all in every issue. Despite all the typos we had I really liked this issue because I liked my opinion piece and also the picture I took of Mr. Alas getting a pie throw at him. I really enjoy meeting "Chico" and writing a story about him and getting good feedback.
