First Issue, Guest Speaker

Congratulations on the first issue! We will critique the paper in Room 421 tomorrow, so annotate a copy and be ready to talk about what was successful and what needs to be improved.

Please add a comment from your notes on the guest speaker. What was the best piece of advice you took away?

  1. I thought the guest speaker was really great. I hope everyone got motivated to do even better next issue. I learn a lot as a reporter and I kind of want to pursue a career in journalism now. Maybe in print. Be confident and to be a good listener and have a pause was maybe the best advice for a journalist.
I really enjoy this guest speaker and I wished we would have many others.

  2. The guest speaker made me realize that asking questions in different methods and not letting go of the subject or occurrence may really create an even juicier and credible story. The five W's and the how really are crucial when getting ideas for a story to appear on the newspaper.

  3. I really enjoyed listening to the guest speaker. She was very interesting and seemed to have a command of all of the skills of journalism. She really put things into perspective in terms of how we should relate to the film people. I am proud for the most part of our first issue and look forward to completing the next one.

  4. The guest speaker gave us many good tips about journalism. Some of my favorite was asking the same question ten different times in different ways and to pick up on the things they say.

  5. The guest speaker really gave us great pointers. I really liked when she told us to ask the same question 10 times until we get the answer are looking for. She really really helped me understand the business and it got me interested to major in that in college.

  6. The guest speaker made me realize how important journalism can be. I learned to be a better listener and let the person being interviewed share everything they need to say. Sometimes the reporter may need to restate the same question 10 different ways in oder to get the full answer.
I enjoyed listening to the guest speaker because I learned a lot more about journalism and am now considering it as a career.

  7. The guest speaker sounded like she had a lot of experience so it was good that she talked to us im sure many of us learned something from her. The first issue turned out great although there were some who did not get a chance to get some of their stories published

  8. The guest speaker gave me more insight on how being a reporter is like. She stressed carefuly on the 5 Y's on making a story (what, where, when, who, and why)and also gave a useful tip in doing interviews: ask the same question ten different ways to get the most out of the person.

  10. I was not here for the guess speaker, so I'll talk about the first issue.
I liked the center spread of the paper, it really was the first page I opened up too. But I also liked the cover page and how they sort of cut off the second title. It made me want to pick up the paper to read about it. And the pictures could have been a bit lighter, but i liked the paper over all.

  11. The guest speaker was brilliant! She gave us alot of advice and tips. I think that what we learned from her will help us in life if we choose this career when we get older. The first issue was good but short for some people. Since it was are first issue they should give us a break because it was the 1st one.

The issue this month was really good. I liked it. It had a few dark pictures, but overall everything was done well. Can't wait for this coming issue!
